Traitor Joe’s

Went to Trader Joe’s today, as I usually do on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Spent $160, which I usually don’t do. I almost always come out between $115 and $130. What’s the discrepancy? Well, dogfood, for one. That’s $20, and we only have to buy it once every six weeks or so. But really, it was the treats — mostly chocolate — that did the dirty work. The very ones I swore off of a week ago. I don’t know what happened. I sort of went crazy.

I got home and realized I had bought not one, not two, not three, but four packages of cookies and chocolates: the very caramels I promised never to have in the house again, the chocolate-chip cookies Mike loves, some Valentine-y heart-shaped cookies that are just silly, and, well, you know, you’ve got to have shortbread around. For tea and such.

Um, there are three of us living here. One of whom is barely given any sugar.

Oh and tonight? I baked cookies. I mean, my book club is meeting tonight, and I needed to bring a dessert. And no one brings store bought to these things. What could I do? Of course I baked extra, because, well, I just thought it would be nice to have them around the house. So —

I think I’m developing a problem. More about this later. I’m in a sugar coma. Must sleep.
